Turning gold into jewellery.

Post by rarebreed on Fri 11 May 2012, 2:23 pm

Hey Crew,
Well on my last trip i found an interesting shaped nugget that i thought would make a good pendant.
My wife has came out with me on the last trip and i thought as a present to her for supporting my hobby I would turn this particular nugget into a pendant.

I had a left over diamond from her old engagement ring that i thought would fit perfect into one of the pits in this nugget, so i went about getting some quotes for a bail and set the stone.
I got 3 quotes with the following prices.
quote1 - $660 (VERY expensive for adding a bail and setting the stone but they are a very well known company.)
quote2 - $375 (Reputable jeweller but much better price.)
quote3 - $200 (Random jewellery arcade shop)

I decided to go with option 2 as the price was right and they also have a very good name.

All in all I'm very very happy with the finished product, My wife hasn't even seen it yet because shes away for work Razz
Any and all question are welcome if you are curious.

Cheers guys

She supports my hobby, though i doubt she would go to the extent to actually learn to much about it, i think I'm safe for now Razz

Hey Speci,
Nugget came in at just under 7grams its a nice flat piece though so thought it would work out well as a pendant.

I too was impressed with how the bail turned out, the jeweller at (Hardy Brothers) really did it justice.
Cheers
