I don't own a 5000 or the 4500, but I have been watching carefully. Both machines find gold better than the older machines but it seems to me, they only find small stuff.
I'm sure they have found some decent size pieces but few and far between. So I ask myself the question, should I pay out $6,000 for a unit that will find me "fly sh*t" or take a chance and pay the money and hope for the best.
Tricky question and personal choice I guess.

My wife and I have found quite a few 0.05 gram nuggets with the 4000, 4500 and 5000.
The smallest I have found is 0.03 grams.
The biggest is... Mmmmm nice!!! kwdf

Amazing! What do you do? Scrape up the dust with the signal in it, take it home and pan it off? Laughing Ya got to be careful with the breeze with a 0.1gm, must be deadly on one half that size!

I would not say the 5000 is only good for small stuff. It's pretty good at picking up all range of nuggets. Coil selection is of course vital. It's a lot of money for a machine but its a better payback than other hobbies.

Neil, here's the trick mate to find them tiny buggers once out the ground, get on ya knees and gently blow away the dust until you see the small brown suger sized bit, last trip out i actually found a few specks in the dirt as i blew it away lookin for a tiny bit, now i know where some good dry blow ground is also from doin that. Wink

One bloke i know carries a 1ft bit of garden hose for doin it but i reckon it gives to intense of a blow to work good and see the fine gold also.

I'm thinking to just scoop the little pile of dust into a sandwich bag, take it home and throw it in the pan with a little water. I reckon you'd pick it out dead easy then.
