Some small pilbara gold

Post by pilbarachad on Sun 09 Sep 2012, 3:50 pm

I did an overnighter out at a well known pilbara patch with a mate and managed to bag this little fella first thing this morning.

Not sure of the weight as i cant find my scales, safe to say though that its a sub grammer. I found it with the 11" DD on my extreme after getting sick of the ground noise i was getting from my 8X6 NFA mono.

My mate bagged himself a small speccie aswell whilst night detecting the night previous, so every one was happy.

My mates mate actually rocked up and joined us this morning and with in a few hours had already blown us away with 5 nuggets, and he was still going when we left!

Nice solid little chunk there mate, well done.
What machine was the mate using who arrived in the morning ??
Tried a NF 8x6/5k combo few months ago, way to hot of a coil for most WA ground, not sure how the ML 8" round would go but i reckon if its as good as the ML 11" mono it would be a great combo on the 5k for small gold...

Gday Pete- my mate was actually using the NF 8x6/5k combo and the guy that rocked up in the morning was using a 16" round NFA on his 5K.

Interesting, are you saying maybe it might be better with a bigger coil up in the Pilbara ? or just maybe the operator had it tuned better to the ground.

I dont run smaller than the 11" mono, it gets the tiddlers and actually cover some ground too.
Gave up on wee coils when the 45 came out and had more sens in Extra mode.

Gday guys,

I cant really say much about the differences between the 8x6 and 16 round on the 5K as i havent even touched a 5K yet. All i know is that i couldnt run 8x6 on my extreme over this particular ground, and as anyone whos ever ran a mono on an older machine will no doubt know-that happens. As for the 2 guys with the 5Ks maybe it was just luck (not sure if the first guy had walked over the same ground or not) or maybe that coil is a little too hot as Pete stated??? Id never actually heard of little coils being too hot, but when you think about it makes sense.

Chad i have found the bigger the coil the more ground noise (and EMI) if you cant run a 8x6 then a bigger one will be worse.
I run a 4500 and have found it hard to run any mono coil outside of smooth thimings with super hot pilbara ground, which your extreme doesent have these timings. Sad

maybe get your hands on a bigger DD coil??
