murchison mission - trip of breakdowns

Post by Flying kiwi on Fri 20 Sep 2013, 10:45 am

got back up north for a few days with the wife last weekend. Gold front was not good as we were on the roam checking out new spots ended up out at mindoola which is out west of Cue.
First day our 5000 went spastic and couldent quiten it down would run ok for a bit then nut off facotory reset, new coil spare bat lead different bat and still not fixed Sad  on its way back to minelab for a overhaul hope they sus it. 4500 went strong with the missis picking up a little speci with about 4 grams of the good stuff and sniffing out a sub grammer on an old scrape she is starting to get her ear in now which is a worry when she is out gunning the "pro" What a Face

on the way home the cruiser shat itself completely con rod through the block 100km north of wubin so took two days and $1300 tow to get home Mad
even with all that was great to be out in the ozzie bush and cant wait to do it again once i drop a new donk in the old girl

heres a few pics dident bother with a brag shot of the colour

I can sympathise with you Flying kiwi!  At Nullagine we suffered a busted water hose on the Landcruiser TD 100 series and warped the head.  Had to get a a replacement from Melbourne and it took 3 weeks.

Meantime we made some good friends in Nullagine and got to detect for 6 small ones.

We were quoted by a Port Headland bloke $5,300 to take car & van to Newman or to Port Headland for $3,200.  A Newman bloke wanted $2,700 to take to Newman. Crikey !!
In the end, the mechanic in Nullagine did it.  All good.

Hope things are on the improve for you.
cheers

Sheesh! I got a Brunswick in my Nissan but I've never heard of one ever having a big blow up like a con-rod "excursion"!! How long have you had the Brunswick?? How many kms?

Mines done about 50,000 kms since it was fitted.

Hi Tom,
I am sure you will be happy with your choice of motor.I have found Greg and the team great to deal with and nothing was too much trouble.

Whilst on the subject of repowering Nissan patrol / landcruisers , has anyone fitted a cummins 4bt or 6bt to their 4wd , there are a few around , but I have never known anyone personally. They are an economical & solid ohc diesel engine , cheers albo.

No problems with the 6.5 Turbo Chevy but did lose a tooth in the diff a couple of years back and last trip this year had to drive from Tammin to home with out an operating clutch. (Spring jammed the diaphragm)
Was a bit hairy judging the lights & round a bouts with van in tow so we didn't have to stop. A;QSCK kwdf

well can finally close this one out, new crate engine this time with a turbo bolted on the side, definitely has more poke and a bit easier on fuel (no longer horrendous now only shocking Evil or Very Mad  Evil or Very Mad )[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

big thumbs up to the boys at Chev Power for fitting, real tidy job, by finding my own engine saved $10k on what Brunswick quoted  Very Happy

It could mean one of two things
State Energy Commission of WA
or
State Electricity Commission of WA

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

It's not a problem, just interesting.
