glad to be out of there thats for sure, way too hot, it was 9.30 am and 50 deg. and getting hotter by the hr. the ground did look good in places but turned out to be quite deep and a bit noisy but there was a lot of old deep dry blowing holes around there, I hiked to near the peak of the range to try to find the shallower ground and hopefully some yellow but the forest litter was so thick you couldnt get the coil on the ground so bailed out. I found a old timers camp on the way down and some great unbroken bottles, a green champagne bottle, a purple glass one and pair of unbroken Worcestershire sauce bottles and with cliff's help he spied the glass cap off one of them for the set. unusual to find one good bottle so to find 4 is great and something for the cabinet anyway.  I will get some pics up soon.
cheers

Yep Martin iv worked straight through summer on a few occasions only because we were on ok runs , just chaining the flats , welcome surprises most days , not moving about & build a good tarp camp , up early , finish at 11.00 am .... start again at 5.00 & go till dark 8.00 pm , you have to manage it if your in for the long haul , not easy , but when you pick up the odd reasonable sunbaker the temp seems to drop 10 deg straight away , albo.

Sad to say the vid clips are stuffed. They were only 2 to 3 seconds long.
Turns out, that when it's toooo bloody hot, the camcorder turns it self off automatically.
I should have read the book

So how hot is too hot?

The World Health Organization says the optimum air temperature for the body is between 18C and 24C. Any hotter and the risks rise.

Some of the risk is linked to what a body is used to. Unsurprisingly people in hotter countries tend to cope better when the mercury starts to rise.

Precautions
Research has shown that when the temperature gets to 35C, accompanied by high humidity, health is put at danger. Once 40C is reached, it can be dangerous even with low humidity levels.

Suffice to say at 50C, the risk is even higher.

Much also depends if an individual falls into one of the vulnerable categories.

Older people, babies and young children and pregnant women are all more susceptible to extremes in heat as are those with chronic conditions such as heart or breathing problems.

Certain types of medication or infections can have an effect too.

it would be ok if you could sleep during the hottest part of the day Albo but that is near impossible with the heat. low to mid 40's I would handle it for a while i guess if I was on the gold, the temp seem to fluctuate a bit out there so i guess you would only get a week or two of extreme temps to deal with but you take your chances and have to be well prepped and as you say a few sunbakers and you dont think about it for an hr or two. next trip depends on the weather now hopefully next month. may get up your way and say hello.
cheers

the aircon unit I've got is big to be carrying with ya to the scrub.
we just copped a few bad days.
the forecast for the rest of that week at SX was back down in the 30's.
it's the chances ya take.
