Camp Cots

Post by Bignuggs on Sat 24 May 2014, 2:30 pm

I've got a couple of good tents with an excellent air mattress and a good swag.  But there comes a time when it gets bloody difficult getting my old bones off the ground to stand upright.
So the bank got raided again and I've just bought one of these, it should make it easier.

Good choice Cliff, very comfy, only problem is they take up a lot or room when traveling.

must admit the camp cot came in handy last night when it started to rain --yep rain in Ktown again..nice and dry ---I'm definetly sold on this gadget--yep a little bulky and the outside cover is very thin so will get another bag made out of 16oz canvas..the throw it back up onto of the troopy.

The new camp cot arrived and I gotta say I'm impressed with it. It's dead easy to set up and pack down and there's plenty of room inside it.
There's plenty of ventilation and you can get in from both sides. Getting out of it is like sitting on the edge of your bed and standing up, so no more struggling to get of the ground for this old boy.
Only one problem I can see, it definitely needs a mattress or extra padding for me but that's a minor issue.
It packs down to 3' x 3' x approx 6 inches flat so I can't see taking up room as an issue when you look at all the other stuff you take with you.
It's a top piece of gear and I don't think I'll be using my tent or swag again.

Iv had the tent cot a few years now and love using it when not in the van.
Problem in winter....condensation. To fix that...don't breath. Laughing
Fit Bushman self inflatable mattress x5cm and now its comfortable.

Use large tarp to stem condensation....the fly aint good enough, but use both anyway. Keep as many flaps open as you can for air flow or you'll wake with a headache due to breathing in your own co2...or from too much grog...maybe both.??? Laughing

Don't erect over ants nest. affraid
Dont leave boots outside over night.
Get some of those sponge mats to stand on should you need to get up during the night, it saves getting your socks/feet dirty/wet. Razz
Keep closed during the day, critters are inquisitive. scratch
They are a top unit, and ya cant get a better mosquito free sleep during those hot summer nights.

Wish i had room for it in the van.... due to her snoring. pale

Put it on the van roof Owen.
With all the gold you're finding you could afford to tow a motel around with you.

Also Cliff don't set the cot up to close to the fire as quartz spits out of the fire and will burn the sides of the cot.

Memory Foam Toppers (egg shell) buy from K-Mart, Target & Big W.

We used one on top of our air bed for years and was really comfy.

You could also use your mattress out of your swag

That's eggzakly what I did a couple of weeks ago.  cut it half and turned the eggshell pattern of the 2 pieces to face each other.
Magic and added a new Oztrail sleeping bag, very comfortable.

Any updates on the camp cots ? Experiences/brands ?

it has been decided, not by me scratch that the Troopy will be too uncomfortable for two ( fridge is mounted on her side lol! ) and since getting a king size bed she is enjoying her own space so yesterday she suggested we get swags and i mentioned the camp cots so is a single big enough or a bit squeezy ?
