Two sets of co-ordinates?

Post by Rege-PA on Mon 09 Jan 2012, 4:40 am

:?: I have down loaded the google earth old mines for WA and when you click on them the mine name comes up with the co-ordinates listed for it but if you move the mouse to that spot the co-ordinates are not the same.
Which should one use to find these spots?

G'day Rege

You will find than the Coords in the WA mines download are in Decimal degrees, but, your map format
in your Google Earth is set to a different map format, usually Deg.Min,Sec or UTM.

It is vital for your mapping format in both your Google Earth and your GPS to be set to the same format
otherwise when coords are entered from Google Earth they dont take you to the same spot.

Simple way to sort it all out is 1st go into Google earth click on Tools/options & select Decimal Degrees.

next go into your GPS Setup page and select map format and change to the same Decimal Degrees.

Now you will find that everything matches up and when you actually hold your mouse over the Google
WA mines dots the Coords are the same as the dots Coords.

Hope this helps Very Happy
