Stabiliser/RX Gain

Post by goldstrijk on Sat 31 Jan 2015, 4:47 pm

I am a bit confused with the settings I have seen on some posts
I have always had my Gain higher than my Stab
Yet I have seen some settings that the Stab is higher than the Gain scratch
I'm sure it says in the manual that the Stab is 4 below the Gain
Mind you, on my 5K I can't do that, as it starts to become unstable
Sometimes I can't have my Stab higher than 4, no matter what my Gain is set on
Anyone got any ideas?

Pete

Gain is usually higher than stabiliser. Never heard of other way round.
Depends on other settings.
I mainly use fine gold and commander coils
Set gain as high as possible using stabiliser to stabilise.
Maybe target volume too high or motion wrong.
Too many variables to explain over net but easy out bush.
Hope I haven't added too much confusion.

Very Happy

I USUALLY FIND THAT IF THE TARGET VOL is up around 14 then my machine dosent want to play ball...mind u its almost a complete waste of time in the arvo during Feb---EMI and lightning spikes---death adders and everything else mother nature throws at us...oh did I mention bushfires,,,

theres one burning up at Whim Creek as we type..and another one out on one of the islands of Dampier....

Ray, do you know which island?, I lived in Dampier for five years in the eighties, did a lot of fishing around the islands, magic place and good old Paraburdoo for three years, that's when I got into detecting
Lived in Karratha for a while too in Lewington way
My son is replacing all the cladding/roofing at 7 Mile ATM

Pete

I'm still using the OLD GPX 4500 and run my gain at Minimum 13 and don't have the Stab below 5

I don't have to much problem with the 14 X 9 mono but you need to ground balance really good

The Balance can take some time 2-3 good goes at it

I got some good tips heading bush with the Crazy one for 3 years kwdf

Yeah Cloggsie runs his Target Vol WAY up and Stab WAY low, his machine is quiet as, maybe the reason he only finds pockets full of grammers lately... The deep lurkers sound like junk and he keeps walking cos he has forgotten what they sound like. I dig more junk than anyone, jagged a lurker 10 yards from his Forbie and gutted him! lol!

Yeah CP,

Should see the managery  hanging off the 2300 he's got just to make the thing the way he wants it;

- He has to carry pockets full of Rechargables (coz he buys cheap ones that don't last)
- Velcro-ed on Speaker & Speaker Booster system THE WHO would be proud of (Ready for Patent)
- "100mm PVC Plumbing Pipe Arm Rest" only a scrawny bloke like him can get his arm through, coz he hates the flappy things!
- and a ML bungie Harness to hang it all off.

...he'll be working on the portable solar powered wine bottle cooler/hydration delivery system to hang off his ar*se next

(the man has it BAD, I'll put my money on him being out before Easter smashing his favourite flogged patch, just needs an excuse, the 4WD hasn't looked so clean of red dust in years).
