Land & Sea Safety

Post by Nightjar on Fri 16 Oct 2015, 7:31 am

Anyone a full bottle on regulations?
It is confusing reading and listening to the various interpretations. (Could be an age thing? :-))

It is only a matter of time and it will be compulsory to carry some form of device when land travelling remote. (Rightly so.)
PLB's are not legal for sea unless worn personally and accompanied by a EPIRB on your boat if venturing more than 2 km's from the mainland.
Can a single EPIRB be registered for both land & sea?

Cheers

Peter

Thanks for that info.
Whether on land or sea, it does need to be impressed on people, you need some type of location device.
We have just had another lost man east of Laverton (found) and not once did they say he carried a GPS or a PLB.
I'll say it again, when you look at the money we spend on our hobby/profession, $300 is a small price to pay so you can be located.
Cheers

G'day Charlie,

I have a hand held GPS and I also have a PLB. Cost about $600 all up which is a little price to pay when you take into consideration the cost of my detecting and camping gear.
At least I won't get lost.
Cheers
Cliff
