Gas bottles

Post by Bignuggs on Wed 26 Jul 2017, 9:43 am

This will sound like a real dumb question.
I've got a 4.5kg gas bottle, I don't use it much. if I was using it everyday for cooking, how long will the bottle last.
I usually only use it to boil the kettle.

cheers
Cliff

At a guess I would say 3-4 weeks perhaps more. depends on what BTU's your burner is using.

BTU's ?? now ya got me.  I dunno, it's just a poxy little primus 2 burner but the box says 10,000 BTU output.
Think I'll have to do some googling to see if there's a calculator for gas usage.  The bottle still feels pretty full after the last trip I did, I think I might be right for another week or it'll be cold tinned baked beans and stew  Razz

BTU's most camping stoves are between 7500 and 1200 BTU's. More than enough to boil water. More important that you have a windsheild so that your not wasting heat/flame. If you weigh the bottle it will give up an indication as to how much gas is left. By the sounds of it you have more than enough gas for a week. Unless you plan on smelting gold, lol.
