nissan 4.2 turbo engine wanted

Post by homer08 on Tue 09 Jan 2018, 9:49 am

I am after a 4.2 turbo motor with reasonable klms, done around 200 to 300 thousand, less would be better but thats wishfull thinking. If anyone has one or knows where i can find one it would be appreciated.
For sale after fitting would be a Chev 6.5 boat anchor with all the bolt ons. Has done 46,600 klms since fitted by Brunswick.
Leaking water from around cylinder eight,so could be anything from gasket to total rebuild. ( don't care much ).
Would prefer to offload it as one piece, any reasonable offers considered.
Cheers. 0405112263

Hi Phil and Gail,on the bright side it didn't happen out bush.
I'm still driving it until I get another motor,an option is to just go for a rebuild, but i don't think so.

Homer,
Have done almost 100,000 in my Nissan coilcab fitted with the what you say, a turboed boat anchor?
Went from 20/22l/100 towing/grunting with the original 4.2 Nissan turbo to 16/18L/100 cruising with the Chevy. :-)

Did you fit a new or overhauled engine?

Hi Nightjar, I had an overhauled motor fitted non turbo.
I was getting the same 16/18L/100 as you get.
It is the second motor, as the one that was in the ute when I got it lasted about a month.
I'm not prepared to spend big dollars on a new Motor, which maybe I should have done when the first one went. One option is to pull it down and rebuild, may get off lightly if it is only a gasket or head, but then it would be playing on my mind all the time.
Things may change as it is still driveable and I have some time before going bush again. Though the Mrs is pushing for a week or two down south.

Homer,
Only a guess, but I'd say it is a head gasket, pull the head and get it planed and refit.
Did you get the head bolts re-tensioned after 5,00kms if not you should have?
Good luck getting it sorted so you can travel confidently.

Hi Cliff, I have googled most those places, maybe around the end of May when the local APLA does their long weekend camp. Will do a 40E so that I have more time before and after camp .
Nightjar, yes it went back to Brunswick for the first couple of services and head bolt tensioning, from then on I done the services every 5000 Ks myself.
Have been thinking about what you suggested about gaskets and heads.
Might even go with that, I change my mind every day.

Should be a lot cheaper than buying an refitting a 4.2 back in your vehicle, the electrics alone would be a nightmare.
Good luck which ever road you take.
