overlapping tenements

Not sure if everyone has seen this, I'm sure you have.
You have a live tenement with a pending over the top.  I have contacted the mines dept about it and they say it is legal.
Now it's got me beat, how can you have pending lease over a live lease ?

cheers

Yes, have seen examples of this Cliff, but like you have no idea how it can be legal?

***Thoughts only*** Maybe the pending is over a surrended lease which has a later expiry date?

Various reasons.
It could be converting the underlying tenement to a ML.
It could be someone has applied for the tenement before the underlying tenement surrender/expiry has been registered
there are other reasons as well...

It was something I noticed a while back but it was a pending EL over a live EL. the pending didn't completely cover the live lease.
it still doesn't make sense to me. seems to be jumping the gun if the previous holder is going to let the lease lapse.

Was it by the same holder?

Hi Ismael. no it was a different tenement holder. the only thing I can think of, maybe there was a joint venture in the works. but from what I have seen, it's not an isolated case. seems to be common practice.

Can be as the existing el licence is soon to reach expiry trusted friends may over peg & when the original expires the over pegged el takes priority & keeps the ground in the purple circle at minimal cost

Cliff
Could I suggest that you state the tenement numbers and people can look on Tengraph for themselves.

I think that there plenty of us who are interested in what you said above and no doubt someone will have an explanation.

Or is this THE spot? Wink

Col, next time I get on tengraph and find an example I'll post it but I haven't been out for a long time so I don't have any "THE" spots lol!
